The main entrance to Mauthausen concentration camp with its distinctive guard towers. The circular tower on the left and the square one on the right dominated the camp access, allowing the SS to control every movement. The grey granite walls, quarried by the prisoners themselves, give the complex the appearance of an impregnable fortress.
