The mighty cast iron lion dominates the battlefield from the top of the mound. The statue was commissioned by King William I of the Netherlands to commemorate the spot where his son, the Prince of Orange, was wounded during the battle. The lion, symbol of the Netherlands, holds a paw on a globe representing the victory of the European coalition over Napoleon. The green hill is surrounded by trees and offers one of the most evocative views of Walloon Brabant.
