Night view of the famous Latin Bridge in Sarajevo, one of the most significant places in 20th-century world history. This Ottoman limestone bridge with four arches witnessed the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie on June 28, 1914, an event that triggered World War I. The illuminated building on the right houses the Sarajevo Museum dedicated to this historic event. The bridge, originally called Principov Most in honor of assassin Gavrilo Princip, was renamed Latin Bridge after the dissolution of Yugoslavia, symbolizing the complex history of this city.
