The Vukovar cemetery where the victims of the Ovcara massacre rest. After the city fell on November 18, 1991, about 264 people, including patients and hospital staff, were taken by Serbian forces and executed at the Ovcara farm. The graves, neatly arranged among rows of evergreen cypress trees, are decorated with fresh flowers and wreaths, testimony to the still-living memory in the community. The black granite headstones bear the names of the victims, many of whom were identified only years later through investigations by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
