The bronze monument dedicated to reformer Jan Hus with Tyn Church in background in Prague
The photograph portrays the Jan Hus monument, central figure in Bohemian history and precursor of the Protestant Reformation. The bronze sculpture, work of Ladislav Saloun and inaugurated in 1915 on the 500th anniversary of Hus martyrdom, represents the reformer surrounded by his Hussite followers. Hus, rector of Prague University, was condemned to burn at the stake for heresy in 1415 by the Council of Constance. The monument occupies the center of Old Town Square, with the Gothic towers of the Church of Our Lady before Tyn rising in the background. The Renaissance and Baroque houses of the square, with their decorated facades, create an architectural frame of great impact. Some tourists stroll in the paved square, while the clear sky enhances building colors.
