The photograph portrays the main entrance to Prague Castle, the largest ancient castle in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records. Two imposing Battling Titans statues, created in 1768 by sculptor Ignaz Platzer, top the pillars flanking the honor gate. Castle guards, in their characteristic white and blue striped sentry boxes, oversee the access. Beyond the gilded wrought iron gate, the Matthias Gate can be glimpsed, built in Baroque style in 1614, leading to the first courtyard of the complex. The castle, founded in the 9th century, is today the seat of the Czech Republic Presidency and houses St. Vitus Cathedral, the Golden Lane, and numerous museums. The blue sky with white clouds frames this scene of great architectural impact.
