The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel stands majestically against a sky ablaze with sunset, between the Tuileries Gardens and the Louvre's Cour du Carrousel. Built between 1806 and 1808 to celebrate Napoleonic victories, the arch features three arches decorated with bas-reliefs narrating the emperor's military campaigns. On top, the quadriga of gilded bronze horses leads Victory's chariot. Pink marble Corinthian columns frame the side openings, while soldiers in Napoleonic uniforms decorate the pillars. Passersby cross through the arch enjoying the view opening towards the Jardin des Tuileries and, in the distance, towards Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Elysees.
