An extraordinary black and white aerial view shows the Arc de Triomphe at the center of Place Charles de Gaulle, with twelve avenues radiating star-like from the square. Photographed from the top of the Eiffel Tower, the image reveals the perfect geometry of Parisian urban planning desired by Baron Haussmann. The Arc de Triomphe, commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to celebrate French victories, rises imposingly at the center of the composition. The typical zinc roofs of Paris extend as far as the eye can see, creating a grey sea interrupted by green lines of trees along the boulevards. This perspective allows appreciation of the monumental scale of Parisian urban planning.
