The funerary monument of Honore de Balzac, one of the greatest French writers, author of the monumental "Human Comedy." The bronze bust, portraying the writer with his characteristic massive build and intense gaze, is placed on a tall pedestal enclosed by a wrought iron balustrade. Balzac died in Paris in 1850, at just 51, worn out by relentless work and the excess of coffee with which he kept himself awake during long nights of writing. Victor Hugo delivered the eulogy, calling him "one of the first among the greatest, one of the highest among the best."
