A view of the monumental crypts that characterize the Pere-Lachaise landscape. The private funerary chapels, built between the 19th and 20th centuries, represent a true open-air museum of funerary architecture. Different styles can be admired: from neoclassical with pediments and columns, to neo-Gothic with spires and pointed arches, to eclectic with obelisks and Masonic symbols. These constructions belonged to the wealthiest families of the Parisian bourgeoisie, who competed to erect the most elaborate and artistically significant monuments.
