A spectacular night view of the Sacre Coeur Basilica dominating Montmartre hill in Paris. The white travertine building, constructed between 1875 and 1914 in Romano-Byzantine style, shines in the darkness thanks to artificial lighting that enhances its domes and facade. The large central dome, 83 meters high, is flanked by smaller domes and the characteristic bell tower housing the Savoyarde, one of the largest bells in France. The basilica was erected as an act of expiation after the defeat in the Franco-Prussian War and the Paris Commune. The silhouettes of visitors on the stairway testify that this place is an unmissable destination even in the evening hours.
