The night image shows the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral of Strasbourg framed through the streets of the historic center. The Gothic facade in pink Vosges sandstone, artificially illuminated, stands out in the night sky with its single 142-meter bell tower. On the sides of the street, typical Alsatian half-timbered houses with shop windows create a fascinating contrast between medieval architecture and contemporary urban life. The cathedral, built between 1015 and 1439, was for over two centuries the tallest building in the world and represents a masterpiece of Rhenish Gothic.
