The central avenue of Dachau concentration camp, flanked by tall poplars creating a striking perspective. This road divided the two rows of barracks where prisoners were housed. Today, where 34 barracks once stood, only concrete perimeters remain indicating their position. Small white guard posts lined the avenue. Dachau camp, initially designed for 5,000 inmates, held over 30,000 at peak overcrowding, with disastrous hygienic conditions.
