The image is taken from the deck of a tourist boat sailing in the cobalt blue waters of the Santorini caldera. Two passengers observe the spectacular rock walls rising vertically from the sea for hundreds of meters. These multicolored cliffs, layered in bands of red, brown, and gray, are the result of the catastrophic Minoan eruption that occurred about 3,600 years ago, which created the caldera. At the top of the cliffs, the white profile of Fira and Imerovigli villages can be glimpsed. The wooden railing of the boat in the foreground frames the scene, while the clear blue sky completes this unique geological landscape, testimony to the volcanic power that shaped the Santorini archipelago.
