The castle of Charles V is a defensive construction of the XVI century. commissioned by Charles V in view of strengthening the coastal defense system of southern Italy. In fact, this was the period of fear of a hypothetical invasion by the Turks, recently defeated in the first siege of Vienna in 1517, but which remained a bogey for European Christian sovereigns, first of all the emperor, Charles V.
