A ruined farmhouse stands solitary among the freshly harvested wheat fields of Genzano di Lucania. The building, now roofless and with partially collapsed walls, represents a tangible testimony to the agricultural history of these lands. The furrow lines in the surrounding field guide the eye towards the structure, which stands out against the blue sky dotted with clouds. These farmhouses, once inhabited by peasant families, were gradually abandoned during the rural exodus of the second half of the twentieth century. Today they are an integral part of the Murgian landscape, involuntary monuments to the memory of an Italy that once was.
