The majestic Miramare Castle, a Habsburg residence overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, stands elegantly with its Italian gardens sloping down towards the sea. Built between 1856 and 1860 at the behest of Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg, the castle represents a jewel of 19th-century eclectic architecture.
