The entrance to the ancient pozzolana quarries where on March 24, 1944, 335 Italian civilians and political prisoners were massacred by Nazi occupation troops. The hill covered with vegetation and Mediterranean pines conceals the site of the slaughter, now transformed into a national memorial. The commemorative plaques on the rock wall remember the victims of the massacre.
