The Alzette river flows peacefully among the colorful houses of the Grund district, the oldest historic core of Luxembourg City. The pastel yellow and cream dwellings overlook the water directly, with their white shutters and grey slate roofs typical of Luxembourg architecture. A small pedestrian bridge connects the two banks, while in the background the fortifications and buildings of the upper city perched on the rock can be glimpsed. The winter sky with variable clouds is reflected in the brown waters of the river swollen by rain. The Grund, a UNESCO heritage site, preserves intact the charm of a medieval village.
