A panoramic view of Malta Grand Harbour captures the three historic cities - Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua - illuminated by the warm sunset light. The natural harbor, one of the deepest in the Mediterranean, has been the strategic and commercial heart of the Maltese archipelago for centuries. On the left, the fortifications of Vittoriosa with St. Lawrence church bell tower can be recognized, while on the right stand the bastions of Fort St. Angelo. Boats moored in the marina add life to the scene, while dramatic clouds in the sky create a spectacular atmosphere. This harbor was the scene of the Great Siege of 1565, when the Knights of Malta repelled the Ottoman invasion.
