An evocative view from the sea shows the unmistakable skyline of Valletta, Malta's capital built by the Knights of St. John after the Great Siege of 1565. The mighty limestone bastions rise directly from the sea, protecting the fortified city dominating the Grand Harbour. In the center, the dome of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church can be recognized, one of the city's landmarks. On the right, the walls extend towards Fort St. Elmo. The cloudy sky adds drama to the composition, while a rock in the foreground frames the view. Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980, is considered one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world.
