An evocative view from the sea shows the unmistakable skyline of Valletta, Malta's capital built by the Knights of St. John after the Great Siege of 1565. The mighty limestone bastions rise directly from the sea, protecting the fortified city dominating the Grand Harbour. In the center, the dome of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church can be recognized, one of the city's landmarks. On the right, the walls extend towards Fort St. Elmo.
