The sleepers of the railway ramp where deportee convoys arrived at Treblinka camp

The concrete sleepers of the Treblinka railway ramp stretch toward the forest in a disturbing perspective. This was the arrival point of trains loaded with deportees, mainly Jews from the Warsaw ghetto and other Polish cities. Commemorative stones on the sides mark the path that prisoners were forced to walk toward the gas chambers, cynically called "showers" by the Nazis. The morning mist enveloping the forest gives the scene a ghostly atmosphere, evoking the ghosts of the hundreds of thousands of people who arrived here never to return.
