A view from below shows the inner courtyard of a building in the former Warsaw ghetto. The tall red brick walls rise on all sides, creating a light well characteristic of residential architecture of the era. The windows, some bricked up, others with broken glass, testify to the abandonment of these spaces. The wrought iron balconies, now rusted, protrude from the facades. In these narrow courtyards, much of the daily life of ghetto residents took place, forced to share minimal spaces in conditions of extreme poverty and overcrowding.
