This image shows two of the three buildings that make up the famous Block of Discord (Manzana de la Discordia) on Barcelona's Passeig de Gracia. On the left, Casa Amatller by Josep Puig i Cadafalch with its Flemish-inspired stepped gable; on the right, Casa Batllo by Antoni Gaudi with its organic and colorful facade. The name Block of Discord derives from the competition between the three great architects of Catalan modernism who created their works here: besides Puig i Cadafalch and Gaudi, also Domenech i Montaner with Casa Lleo Morera. Tourists admire from the sidewalk these masterpieces representing different interpretations of the same artistic movement.
