An elevated view shows the majestic Grossmunster cathedral, symbol of Zurich and one of the most important religious buildings in Switzerland. The twin Romanesque towers, built between 1100 and 1220, stand against the grey sky dominating the rooftops of the historic center. The cathedral is closely linked to the Protestant Reformation: here Huldrych Zwingli preached from 1519, initiating the reform movement in Switzerland. In the foreground are the historic buildings of the Niederdorf district with their characteristic pitched roofs, while in the background the Limmat River marks the boundary of the old town.
