Majestic night view of the Lincoln Memorial, neoclassical temple dedicated to the sixteenth President of the United States Abraham Lincoln. The 36 Doric columns, representing the states of the Union at Lincoln death in 1865, surround the building in white Colorado marble. State names are engraved on the upper frieze while visitors climb the monumental staircase toward the illuminated statue inside. Inaugurated in 1922, this memorial has become a symbol of freedom and civil rights, stage of Martin Luther King famous I Have a Dream speech in 1963.
