The site of Stonehenge is the most famous example of cromlech. A cromlech is a circular complex of menhirs, prehistoric megalithic blocks, positioned in a circle and sometimes joined with the trilithic system. The function of a cromlech is not known with certainty. They were probably astronomical sanctuaries.
