A close-up detail of the famous Vukovar water tower, symbol of Croatian resistance and the city's tragedy. The structure, 50 meters tall and built in the 1960s, was hit by over 600 projectiles during the 87 days of siege. The image clearly shows holes of various sizes perforating the red brick structure, damaged reinforced concrete, and collapsed parts of the tank. Despite devastating damage, the tower never fell, becoming a symbol of resistance. Today it is protected as a national monument and houses inside a museum dedicated to the siege.
