The first courtyard of Cesky Krumlov castle with Renaissance fountain and famous decorated tower
The image shows the first courtyard of Cesky Krumlov castle, dominated by the famous cylindrical tower that has become the symbol of the city. The tower, 54 meters high, features Renaissance painted decoration with trompe-l'oeil architectural motifs simulating windows, pilasters, and rustication. The upper body is crowned by a gallery with arches and a green onion dome roof. In the foreground, a Renaissance fountain with octagonal basin occupies the center of the paved courtyard. The surrounding buildings feature facades decorated with sgraffito technique, typical of 16th-century Bohemian architecture, imitating stone rustication. The arched doorway on the left leads to the other courtyards of the complex. This courtyard represents the main entrance to the castle, the second largest in the Czech Republic.
