The photograph portrays Namesti Svornosti, Cesky Krumlov main square, beating heart of city life since the Middle Ages. At the center rises the plague column, a baroque monument erected in 1716 to thank the Virgin Mary for the end of the epidemic. The column, topped by a statue of the Madonna, is surrounded by a balustrade with statues of saints. The houses surrounding the square feature pastel-colored facades: pink, light green, yellow, ochre, each with decorated gables testifying to different architectural styles from Gothic to Baroque. The buildings house restaurants, hotels, and shops on the ground floor, while benches and flower boxes furnish the public space. The gray porphyry cube paving creates geometric patterns. This square, with its perfectly preserved medieval atmosphere, is the ideal starting point for exploring the old town.
