This evocative night photograph captures the magical atmosphere of Charles Bridge after sunset. In the foreground, the Crucifix statue, one of 30 baroque statues decorating the bridge, stands illuminated against the night sky. The golden Hebrew inscription on the cross, added in 1696, gleams in the lamplight. In the background, Prague Castle with St. Vitus Cathedral dominates Hradcany hill, lit like a beacon in the night. The bridge stone pavement, polished and deserted, reflects the lights creating an almost unreal atmosphere. The other bridge statues follow one another towards Mala Strana Tower. This night perspective, away from daytime crowds, allows appreciation of the magic of one of Europe most romantic bridges.
