The fourth courtyard cells at Theresienstadt were designed by the Gestapo to hold between 400 and 600 prisoners in conditions of intentional overcrowding. This practice aimed to break the physical and moral resistance of detainees, making any organization or rebellion impossible. Mortality in these cells was extremely high.
