The guardroom of Theresienstadt Small Fortress where Gestapo guards conducted interrogations and censored prisoner correspondence. In this building at the camp entrance, new arrivals were registered and often subjected to initial mistreatment. Mail censorship was systematic: every letter was read and modified to hide the true conditions of the camp. Many prisoners underwent brutal initial interrogations here before being assigned to cells.
