View of Terezin ghetto (the Large Fortress) along the Ohre river. Unlike the Small Fortress used as a prison, the fortified town of Terezin was transformed into a Jewish ghetto. The original buildings of the Habsburg town housed up to 60,000 Jews from across Europe. The Nazis used Terezin for propaganda, presenting it as a model settlement, while in reality it was a transit point to extermination camps.
