The imposing granite obelisk commemorating the heroic climb of American Rangers at Pointe du Hoc on June 6, 1944. Under the command of Lieutenant Colonel James Rudder, 225 men scaled the 100-foot cliffs under enemy fire. Only 90 were still able to fight after two days of battle.
