The image offers a perspective from the altar towards the main entrance of Notre-Dame Cathedral of Strasbourg. The slender Gothic columns support the cross vaults that rise to over 30 meters in height, while the polychrome stained glass windows filter light creating a mystical atmosphere. At the end of the central nave, the magnificent 14th-century western rose window, a masterpiece of medieval glass art, can be distinguished. The side windows, among the oldest and most precious in Europe, narrate biblical stories and lives of saints. Gothic architecture reaches here one of its highest expressions of verticality and lightness.
