The night photograph shows the medieval towers of the Ponts Couverts illuminated with warm lights that enhance their mighty defensive architecture. The three square sandstone towers, about 30 meters high, are reflected in the dark waters of the Ill River together with the red lights of the locks. The four-pitched roof coverings, rebuilt after war destruction, stand out against the night sky. This defensive system, built in the 13th century, protected river access to the city and represented one of the gates of the city walls. The night lighting transforms this corner of Strasbourg into a fairy-tale setting.
