The collective sinks of a Dachau concentration camp barrack: circular metal fountains where dozens of prisoners had to wash simultaneously. The water, often freezing and available only for a few minutes daily, was insufficient to maintain adequate hygiene, contributing to the spread of diseases like typhus. The gray walls and tile floor show the sparse environment in which inmates lived. These sinks, like the latrines, were designed to maximize humiliation and deny all dignity to prisoners.
