The entrance building of Dachau concentration camp, known as the Jourhaus, with its characteristic central guard tower. This white structure with red roof was the main access point to the camp, where prisoners were registered and subjected to their first humiliations. Dachau was the first Nazi concentration camp, opened on March 22, 1933, just two months after Hitler's rise to power. Located about 16 kilometers from Munich, Bavaria, Dachau became the model for all subsequent concentration camps and a training center for the SS.
