One of the watchtowers that guarded the perimeter of Dachau concentration camp. The concrete structure with red roof housed SS sentries armed with machine guns, ready to shoot anyone attempting escape. The wooden posts in the foreground mark the path of the electrified fence that surrounded the camp. The green grass and trees now surrounding the tower contrast with the deadly function this place served for twelve years. The towers were positioned to leave no blind spots along the entire perimeter.
