The long corridor of the Ravensbrück camp prison, known as Zellenbau (cell building), extends in a disturbing symmetrical perspective. Cell doors line both sides, illuminated by globe lamps creating a ghostly atmosphere. Here were confined prisoners considered particularly dangerous or those subjected to special punishments. Conditions in the cells were even harsher than in the barracks: isolation, darkness, hunger, and torture were the norm for those imprisoned here.
