The Kommandantur building, the SS headquarters at Ravensbrück concentration camp

The imposing Kommandantur building, headquarters of the SS command at Ravensbrück concentration camp. The symmetrical structure with its central tower dominated the camp entrance, a symbol of Nazi power over the more than 130,000 women and children interned here between 1939 and 1945. From here, orders were issued that regulated every aspect of life and death in the camp. Today the building is part of the memorial and museum that preserves the memory of the victims.
