The reconstructed security fence with barbed wire at Sachsenhausen camp

A section of the reconstructed security fence shows the barbed wire system that surrounded Sachsenhausen camp. The concrete post with curved metal arms supported multiple rows of barbed wire, while concertina rolls at the base made any escape attempt impossible. In the background, a watchtower and the Tower A building are visible. The zone between the inner fence and outer wall was called the death zone: anyone entering it would be shot without warning by sentries.
