The interior of the execution trench with log wall at Sachsenhausen

The interior of the Genickschussanlage, Sachsenhausen execution trench, shows the wall built with stacked logs that served to muffle shots and absorb blood. On the floor is visible a wooden stool on which victims were made to sit before being killed with a shot to the neck. This chilling place was the scene of thousands of executions, particularly of Soviet prisoners of war. The structure has been preserved as testimony to the systematic brutality of the Nazi regime.
