The majestic Corinthian columns of the Temple of Olympian Zeus, one of the largest temples of antiquity. Begun in the 6th century BC and completed only under Emperor Hadrian in 131 AD, this colossal sacred building measured 96 meters in length. Of the original 104 columns standing 17 meters tall, only 15 remain standing today and one fallen. The backdrop of Mount Hymettus and modern Athens creates an evocative contrast between past and present, while the columns testify to the grandeur of Zeus worship in ancient Greece.
