The ruins of the Kos Asclepion, considered the first hospital in the history of Western medicine. In the foreground are the foundations of buildings that made up the medical complex, while in the background stands the portico with its arches, partly reconstructed during the Roman period. The cypresses surrounding the site give the area a sacred and contemplative atmosphere. The Asclepion was founded in the 4th century BC and here Hippocrates, father of medicine, taught and practiced the medical art, transforming healing practices from religious rituals to science based on clinical observation.
