Leonidas I was a spartan king. He was one of the few spartan kings trained in the agoghè. In 481 b.C. he was named as chief commander of the greeks allied forces against the new persian invasion. Leonidas commanded the small greek army during the Battle of Thermopylae in which he was killed.
