The Fisherman's Bastion (Halászbástya) is a panoramic terrace located on Castle Hill in Buda, built between 1895 and 1902 in neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic style. The image shows the white conical towers representing the seven Magyar tribes that founded Hungary. At the center stands the bronze equestrian statue of Saint Stephen I (Szent István), first king of Hungary, created by Alajos Stróbl in 1906. The pedestal decorated with bas-reliefs tells scenes from the life of the sovereign who Christianized the country. The bastion's name derives from the fishermen's guild that defended this section of the walls in the Middle Ages.
