The Margherita Theatre and moored boats in Bari’s old port, photographed by drone off the Imperatore Augusto seafront. A small motorboat sits in the foreground; further back, sailing boats and motorboats are moored along the pontoons. Several dinghies with raised sails can also be seen near the quay.\r\n\r\nThe theatre occupies the centre of the view, with its dome, turrets and stage tower. Built between 1912 and 1914 by Francesco De Giglio with the collaboration of Luigi Santarella, it stands on piles in the sea. This solution circumvented an agreement barring the municipality from building other theatres on municipal land. The Art Nouveau building reopened in December 2018 after restoration as an exhibition space for contemporary art.\r\n\r\nTo the right of the theatre is the former fish market, with arched openings on the ground floor; buildings of modern Bari rise behind it.
