This view of the sea between San Nicola pier and Largo Giannella was taken from a drone approximately forty metres above its take-off point, shortly after sunrise, looking east-south-east. From above, the arrangement of the breakwaters is clearly visible: a long, straight barrier crosses the left side of the frame, while a series of shorter breakwaters shelters the waters along the seafront. These rock breakwaters are coastal defence structures that reduce wave energy and help protect the shore. On the right, the coastline follows a broad curve from the waterfront terrace at Largo Giannella to the buildings along the Nazario Sauro seafront and the tower of the Palazzo della Provincia. Behind them, the modern city extends inland in a regular grid of blocks. The photograph was taken on an early October morning. The sun is just above the horizon, with a short vertical band of light above its disc and an orange reflection across the water. High clouds veil the sky, and a sailing boat lies at anchor in the centre of the sheltered waters.
